It’s not always clear when outsourcing a web marketing project is the best use of an organisation’s budget – however when Cardinal Wiseman Catholic School, a voluntary aided, mixed-sex comprehensive school for 11-19 year olds located in West London, outsourced in June 2016, they quickly realised some key benefits…
Outsourcing web marketing gets new projects off the ground, without the need to increase head-count
Towards the end of each school year, Cardinal Wiseman prepares a stream of open days and evenings, forms and collateral all aimed at introducing the school to potential new students and parents both for Year 7 and Sixth Form intake. It’s a busy time of year and doesn’t leave any room for new projects.
In June 2016, Michael Kiely, Headteacher and Ann Marie McLoughlin, Assistant Head Teacher – Head of Pupil Care & Behaviour were acutely aware that they would be entering the 2017 school year with a website that was sorely in need of attention, however the school didn’t have the scope for additional head-count and existing staff didn’t have bandwidth to take on a website project.
The school decided to enlist the services of Inside Left, a local Ealing business, that offered Cardinal Wiseman the benefits of headcount, without the overhead.
Outsourcing can offer a different perspective
Often an outsider can bring new ideas to the table. While the leadership team recognised the need for website improvements, Inside Left also introduced the idea of a video that would help market the school online and provide a new medium to help promote the school and all its achievements. The school was quick to see the benefit of a video and the race was on to get filming underway before school was out for the summer.
Inside Left made contact with Valerie from Viva Videos, another local business based in Ealing, who was quick to respond and both worked to develop a schedule of interviews and filming in late June 2016.
During the summer, the school received their best-ever GCSE and Sixth Form results and were keen to update the video with this news. Valerie happily agreed to some retakes and by the start of the new school year, signed-off was complete on a video that captured the essence of all that Cardinal Wiseman has to offer.
Outsourcing keeps a web project on track
Inside Left’s reviewed of the Cardinal Wiseman website saw opportunity to improve the following key areas:
- Build a site for mobile user experience that looks great across all devices
- Intuitive navigational design that meets the needs of all departments
- Work towards a uniquely accessible and conventional design that is user centric
The school’s existing website provider was e4education and both companies worked on a design that would meet these objectives for sign-off. Once the design was agreed by the school, e4education commenced the build and Inside Left was the main liaison point between the school and e4 developers.
Without the distraction of everyday tasks within the school’s working environment, Inside Left was able to troubleshoot any issues and get on with the project. As a result, development was accomplished in 4 weeks, content and navigation updated by Inside Left via the proprietary content management system (CMS) and the site was launched by the end of September 2016.
So happy with our decision to get Inside Left onboard to help us with our website. The project was quickly achieved and the video concept was just the idea we needed to help promote our school.
