4 reasons to start writing content for your website

Once a new website has been created, one of the first questions I get asked by clients is;

How can I get to the first page of Google search results?

This is the desire of most businesses and the reason so many SEO companies claim to offer just that. There is only one answer to that question, and that is to write your own content. Here are the 4 reasons why you should start.

1. Writing content will help you get found by Search Engines

Search engines continually crawl the internet looking for new content.  The more content you create, the more unique urls you also create. This will keep search engines returning to your website.

To be found on the internet, you need to create content using key words and phrases that your customers would typically use in a search enquiry. Use Google Keyword Planner for ideas on keywords and common search terms. (Here is a very useful video that will help you access keyword planner without setting up a campaign). The more content you produced based on those keywords, the greater the keyword density on your site and the higher you will rise in search engine results pages (SERPS).

2. Writing content adds value for your customers and prospects

Writing content for your business is about adding value for the audience you want to reach. Creating value takes a little effort and investigation, as you need to understand your buyers and the buying process.  You’ll then need to create content for each point along that journey.  Here is a post on how to create engaging web content for your customers and prospects.

3. Writing content helps promote you as an authority

You know your business better than anyone else and sharing that knowledge will get you found on the internet.  You might think that you can’t write or don’t have enough to write about, however when you start to think about the questions that you get asked in your business everyday, you’ll be surprised about the wealth of content you can generate. As far as being ‘unable to write’ – well the only solution to that, is to start. The more often you write, the easier it will get.

4. Writing content means you have a lot more to share on social media

When you write content, you’ll post that content to the social platforms you have chosen to promote your business.  The ‘Likes’ and ‘Shares’ you generate with that content is also favoured by search engines.  This is known as ‘social proofing’ and you can read more about how social media can influence SEO here.
